Six Ways to Make Twitter Useful

From PC Magazine's blog: Twitter's usefulness goes far beyond finding out what strangers ate for lunch. Read breaking news, get customer service, or even chat with your favorite celebrities.

TwitterFox for FireFox

So, ok, you don't text well with your smart phone, but you're in front of your computer a lot (as I am). This add-in for FireFox lets you integrate your Twitter account with your FireFox browser and have access all the time you're online.

Here's the link: http://twitterfox.net/

I'll have to admit it, having had problems with Internet Explorer one time too many, after switching to FireFox I'm really liking this browser as my primary browser. And it has so many nice add-ins like this one, I don't ever think I'll go back unless there is some serious compatibility issue with a site.

Mike:
Thanks for the tip about the Firefox add-on. I just signed up for Twitter this week and I think the add-on makes it more meaningful.

TwitSeeker: Who You're Looking For...By What They're Talking About

TwitSeeker is basically an alternate search engine for finding twitter.com users - "twits" - and browsing the results all in one combined control panel. It works by using the twitter.com API, and finds twits not by what's posted in their bios but rather based on what they've been tweeting about lately. It uses a custom tag cloud generator written by the author, and was created as an experimental tool to help users quickly build up a twitter community around specific topics.

I have wanted the ability to seek out other people posting with similar interestes. Now you can search either current postings or profiles by key words and/phrases. Once you get your results, you have the option of following them using TwitSeeker's follow service. This saves going to each person's profile and then following.

TweetGrid: The Ultimate Voyeur!

While Tweeting around, I came across TweetGrid. It's a real time search engine for literally everything that is being posted on Tweet by anyone in the world. This display http://tinyurl.com/6yawwu shows you one grid setup. Just change any of the search terms for things you are interested in and you'll get everyone posting about that topic. Then you can login to your account if you like and follow any of the posters.

Amazing.

A Twitter Friend Wheel

What is a Friend Wheel? It's a circular diagram showing all the people who you follow and those that follow you. In interactive flash form, you can click on any friend and see their connections to each other. It was interesting to see how we're interconnected. Once again showing the theory of "6 degrees of separation."

Here's my wheel in flash format: http://tinyurl.com/nt87av

What's even cooler, is to drag and drop any of the people into the center of the wheel and see their relationships. You can move multiple people around and get a better idea of who's connected to who. Cool.

To get your own, just click on the link below my wheel or go to: http://thomas-fletcher.com/friendwheel/

And if you want to follow me, go to Twitter and search on "mike2977"; in return, I'll follow you.

Twitter for Fun and Profit

It was only a matter of time until people took advantage of Twitter with tools to automate the following process and affiliation to make money on sales of those tools, and then ties into other business opportunities.

Interesting to see what's going on whether or not you're interested in the tool or opportunity.

Hummingbird

The headline screams: Here's What The Twitter Elite DONT Want You To Know! The Ultimate Secret to Twitter Success and a marketing pitch is made: http://www.twitaddict.com/hummingbird/

Here's a sales pitch with a captured session using the software. Looks interesting, but pricy.

FriendAdder

A less expensive add-on is FriendAdder. Here's a similar review from the same guy marketing Hummingbird:

TweetLater

This is a tool to manage your tweets. Schedule them for certain times, bulk upload, track keywords, save and reuse drafts, send direct messages automatically to new followers. See the complete list at: http://www.tweetlater.com/
